A water feature is the difference between a pool you swim in and a backyard people want to be in. It is also the thing you hear before you see it, which is most of the point. Moving water covers road noise and neighbors, and it makes a yard feel finished.

We build three kinds: waterfalls, including waterfall and slide combinations, spillover spas that pour into the pool, and bubblers on a tanning ledge.

Natural Stone Waterfalls

For waterfalls we work with Advanced Waterfall Systems, a natural stone waterfall builder based in southern New Jersey. That is not an accident. They are local to our market, they build in real stone rather than sprayed concrete made to look like stone, and their systems are engineered as a unit instead of stacked on site and hoped for.

Real stone matters more than people expect. Faux rock reads as faux rock from about ten feet away, and it reads worse every year as it fades. Stone just looks like stone.

Waterfall and Slide Combinations

If you have kids, this is the one they will ask for. Advanced Waterfall Systems builds waterfall and slide combinations, where the slide runs through the rock structure instead of sitting next to the pool as an obvious plastic add on.

Done right, you see a waterfall. The slide is part of it. That is the difference between a feature that looks designed and a feature that looks bolted on, and it is worth planning early, because the structure, the plumbing and the deck all have to be laid out around it from the start.

Spillover Spas and Bubblers

A spillover spa is a raised spa that shares a wall with the pool and pours into it. You get the water feature and the spa out of the same structure, and the sound runs whenever the spa is on. It is the most common feature we build, because it earns its space twice. More on those on our spa and hot tub page.

Bubblers are the quiet one people forget to ask about. They sit in the shallow water of a tanning ledge and push up a low column of water. Small kids play in them for hours in six inches of water, and they look good lit at night when nobody is in the pool. They are inexpensive compared to everything else on this page, and they are near impossible to add later, so decide during design.

Any of these can run on a schedule or a button through Pentair IntelliCenter, so the waterfall comes on when you get home rather than running all day.

We use Advanced Waterfall Systems for waterfalls and for waterfall and slide combinations. They are a natural stone builder based in southern New Jersey, which keeps the work close to home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Water Features Do You Build?

Waterfalls, including waterfall and slide combinations, spillover spas, and bubblers. For waterfalls and slide combinations we use Advanced Waterfall Systems, who build in natural stone out of southern New Jersey.

Yes, and it is one of the more popular things we do. Advanced Waterfall Systems builds the slide into the rock structure so it reads as part of the waterfall rather than a separate piece of equipment parked on the deck. It needs to be planned from the start, because the structure and the deck have to be laid out around it.

A raised spa built into the pool that shares a wall with it, so the spa water spills over into the pool. It gives you a hot tub and a water feature in one structure, and it is a cleaner look than a standalone hot tub sitting on the patio. See our spa and hot tub page for more.

Sometimes, and honestly, sometimes not well. It depends on the deck, the plumbing and the structure you already have. A rock waterfall added to a finished yard usually means cutting deck and running new plumbing, which is real work. Bubblers in particular need a tanning ledge, which is not something you add later. We will come look and tell you whether it is worth doing or whether it belongs in a bigger renovation.

Less than people assume. The feature recirculates the pool’s own water rather than drawing new water. What you do lose is evaporation, and moving water evaporates faster than still water. Running the feature on a schedule instead of all day, and covering the pool when it is not in use, handles most of that.

That is usually the point. A waterfall is loud enough to cover a road or a neighbor, which is why people put them in. If you want quiet sometimes, put the feature on automation and turn it off from your phone. Bubblers are much quieter than a rock waterfall if noise is a concern.
